7/16/2009 Patrick Sponsors Deaf Man's Fundraising Walk

A 85 year old deaf man, Antony Sabin, and his much loved hearing dog and walking companion, Branson, set off on July 19, 2009 to walk the 146-mile Shakespeare's Way Walk from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, to the Globe Theatre, London in a bid to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and a new loop system for deaf visitors to the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Patrick Stewart, who is the patron of Antony's walk, waved Mr. Sabin off on the last leg of his walk as he arrived at the Globe Theatre in London after 3 weeks on the road. Of Mr. Sabin's accomplishment, Patrick said: "“Having done this walk myself, I can attest to its difficulty, its length and the great soreness of feet that goes with it. To manage it at 85 is the most extraordinary achievement, and we were delighted to welcome Antony to the Globe to celebrate the walk’s conclusion.” More Details
